At Alicia Pacific Veterinary Center, we’re always looking for the best ways to help your pet. New veterinary health research is coming out all the time. One of the more recent therapeutic tools veterinarians are beginning to employ involves Hemp Cannabidiol, or Hemp CBD. You might be familiar with the name as the non-intoxicating component of plants in the marijuana family. Now at Alicia Pacific Veterinary Center we will be carrying CBD for pets in Laguna Niguel and the surrounding areas.
Hemp CBD comes in a few forms, one of which is a daily dietary supplement like the one we prescribe from Bailey’s CBD. The benefits to your pet include anti-inflammatory effects, decreased pain, and increased appetite. For anxious pets, this treatment can also lead to decreased aggression and stress.
Hemp CBD may be suggested by the veterinarian to help treat chronic conditions, such as arthritis and issues with digestion, or acute problems, like sprains, torn ligaments and even post-operative swelling or pain. It may be used on its own, or alongside traditional therapeutic medications. Often, we can lower the doses on other pharmaceutical treatments when we use Help CBD in conjunction.
If you’re curious how it works, cannabidiols activate the body’s natural endocannabinoid system, both in the brain and the periphery. One of the benefits of this is immune cell activation, leading to the beneficial effects listed above. It’s important to note that the amount of tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC), the psychoactive component of plants in the marijuana family, in is far lower in hemp than either humans or animals can detect. There would be no intoxicating effects on your pet.
At Alicia Pacific Veterinary Center, we’re happy to offer CBD for pets in Laguna Niguel, Dana Point, Laguna Beach and Aliso Viejo. Contact us today for more information.
